Name of the Project
K. Hill manganese project.

Location
The Kanye basin, in south-eastern Botswana.

Project Owner/s
Giyani Metals Corp.

Project Description
The project will be developed to produce high-purity manganese sulphate monohydrate (HPMSM), a precursor chemical used in the manufacturing of rechargeable battery cathodes for electric vehicles.

The project is expected to produce 891 000 t of high-purity manganese sulphate monohydrate over its ten-year mine life.

Potential Job Creation
Not stated.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
The updated preliminary economic assessment (PEA) has increased the project’s pretax net present value, at a 10% discount rate, from $357-million in the April 2020 PEA to $431-million in the April 2021 PEA. The internal rate of return has decreased from 82.10% to 80% after tax. The project has a payback of three years.

Capital Expenditure
The project will require a capital investment of about $153-million.

Planned Start/End Date
Not stated.

Latest Developments
Giyani has announced an updated mineral resource estimate for the K.Hill manganese project, which states a 31% increase in indicated resources and a 121% increase in inferred resources.

The new estimate incorporates a southerly extension of the K.Hill deposit, called K.Hill Extension, which underwent reverse circulation drilling in 2021.

The indicated resource now comprises 2.1-million tonnes grading 19.3% manganese oxide for 401 000 t of contained manganese oxide or about one-million tonnes of HPMSM, before processing recoveries are applied.

The inferred resources amount to 3.1-million tonnes at an average grade of 16.9% manganese oxide, equating to about 530 000 t of contained manganese oxide or about 1.3-million tonnes of HPMSM.

Giyani is conducting infill drilling across the K.Hill Extension to upgrade inferred resource material to indicated resources, which is expected to be completed late in the first half of 2022.

The company continues to progress metallurgical testwork for a feasibility study on the project.

Key Contracts, Suppliers and Consultants
