Mining contractor Just Coal acquired an Edge Radial Tracked Stockpiler RTS80 for use at Kusile Mining’s Fentonia colliery, owing to the operational efficiencies offered by the product’s design.

According to mining equipment supplier Pilot Crushtec International CEO Sandro Scherf, the Edge RTS80 is both a radial-wheeled and tracked stockpiler – an all-in-one well-engineered package.

“One of its major benefits to operators is the optimum use of available space, which can be achieved by the machine’s ability to create high-level, 360° stockpiles virtually unaided. The largest product of its type currently available on the local market, the Edge RTS80, is a fully automatic stockpiling system that can be used to handle a diverse range of materials,” he says.
Scherf explains that its on-board remote control system gives the Edge RTS80 a high degree of on-site manoeuvra- bility, with the added ability of being able to negotiate uneven terrain. This capability also enables it to be easily relocated, as it is a simple matter for it to be tracked onto a low loader.

“The concomitant cost benefits of using a 360° stockpiler are considerable, to say the least. The Edge RTS80 can be fed directly by high volume primary and secondary crushers or screens, negating the need for it to be supported by one or more front-end loaders,” he notes.
Scherf adds that not only does this reduce the amount of capital equipment required, it also provides significant savings in respect of diesel, maintenance and labour, especially when the operator is working on a 24/7 basis.
