Suzuki Auto South Africa (Suzuki SA), in partnership with real estate group Fortress, has broken ground on its new head office and distribution centre at Longlake Logistics Park, in Gauteng.

The booming vehicle importer will relocate from its current headquarters at Linbro Business Park to a custom-designed 24 507 m2 facility that will accommodate its expanding operations and workforce.

The warehouse alone will have a 19 100 m2 footprint.

Construction is scheduled for completion by the middle of next year.

Suzuki SA has overtaken mostly local vehicle manufacturers to move into the number-two position in the domestic new- vehicle market in a remarkably short period.

At the beginning of 2021, the Japanese importer was languishing at number six in the local market.

In September 2020 – less than five years ago – the company had just completed the move to its new head office and 1 600 m2 warehouse facility in the Linbro Business Park. The relocation offered the carmaker a 42% increase on the previous warehouse facility.

The 2020 move came shortly after Suzuki SA reported 1 213 new-vehicle sales for the month of July that year.

Sales now hover between 5 000 and 6 000 units a month.

Suzuki SA says its new home celebrates 17 consecutive years of sales growth, while it also reinforces its long-term commitment to the South African market.

Aside from the new warehouse, the new facility will have 2 900 m2 of office space, as well as training facilities, boardrooms, a workshop and a 100-seater canteen.

“This move marks a significant chapter in our journey,” says Suzuki SA VP and CFO Berto van der Lith.

“Our new headquarters will allow for further improvements in our current operations and support the growth we foresee in the coming years.
