Chery notches up record month as Chinese vehicle sales continue to gain traction

Chery South Africa (Chery SA) achieved a new monthly sales record in October, with 1 831 vehicles finding new owners.

This is a 33.7% jump compared with October last year, reports the Chinese importer.

The sports-utility vehicle (SUV) specialist now ranks in the top-ten for overall new-vehicle sales in South Africa and is the fifth best-performing manufacturer in the domestic passenger-car market.

The October record follows 1 614 unit sales in September, and 1 626 unit sales in August.

Chery sales increased substantially in the third quarter, with 4 941 vehicles sold between July and September – an 18.2% year-on-year growth compared with the same quarter last year, and this in a struggling domestic market.

Chery believes the growth in sales can be attributed to the continuous addition of new vehicle variants and options, the latest of which is the Tiggo Cross.

The most popular Chery model is Tiggo 4 Pro, which sold 1 079 units last month.

Earlier this year, Chery expanded into the light-commercial vehicle (LCV) market with the Tiggo 4 Pro load-carrier.

“Chery SA’s sales performance reflects the strong market demand for our versatile SUV lineup,” says Chery SA GM Jay Jay Botes.

“With consistent growth across key model lines and strategic expansions, such as our entry into the LCV segment, we are well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of South African consumers.”
