The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) has begun the process of restarting operations in Labrador City, Quebec.
This comes as provincial authorities on Monday lifted an evacuation order for the town as the threat of nearby forest fires subsided.
IOC, a Rio Tinto company, has donated C$125 000 to the Canadian Red Cross to support relief efforts in connection with the recent wildfires in the Labrador West region and has committed an additional C$75 000 to support community organisations assisting with the recovery phase.
IOC is a joint venture between Rio Tinto (58.7%), Mitsubishi (26.2%) and the Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Income Corporation (15.1%).
