Celebrating a fiftieth anniversary in any sector is “no mean feat”, but to grow exponentially globally and maintain an upward sales trajectory is exceptional, says heavy-duty slurry pump manufacturer Schurco Slurry.
“Schurco Slurry will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary in June, marking five decades characterised by innovation, expansion and market leadership in the slurry pumps industry,” enthuses Schurco Slurry pump applications and projects manager Marc Young.
This performance, the company says, has been reinforced by a warehouse expansion – which included additional floor space, a new paint booth and additional office space, in 2024, in the US – as well as upcoming expansions for the South African branch.
“We first entered the South African pumps market by developing a pumping solutions footprint in Johannesburg to strengthen supply chains and international sales.”
Young adds that its footprint was solidified when Schurco Slurry Africa officially launched in 2022 at the Electra Mining Africa Expo, enhancing the company’s global presence.
Schurco pumps are manufactured at “state-of-the-art facilities”, in the US and South Africa, which help to ensure strict quality control, continuous research and innovation, and global support for its pumps and solutions ranges.
“The company takes a client-focused approach,” says Young, emphasising that every pump is custom-designed according to specific mining and minerals processing applications.
“This level of tailored engineering ensures optimal performance, efficiency and longevity, even in the most challenging conditions,” he adds.
Into Africa
“Since entering the South African market, the Schurco Slurry brand and products have become a well-known name in the market,” says Young.
He asserts that the brand has become synonymous with performance, quality, reliability and availability to end-users, adding that Schurco Slurry South Africa has been awarded multiple projects for the supply of pumps and spares locally and into sub-Saharan Africa.
He attributes the brand’s continuous growth to the quality of its pumps and spares – all of which comply with international standards – as well as the experience of the South African team, which provides clients with the necessary services and products to ensure that they can optimise production and reduce downtime.
Additionally, stock availability is a major contributing factor to the successful growth of the company in South Africa, as its extensive stock holding ensures that pump units and solutions are “ready to go” as and when needed.
“The range of pumps and pump materials that Schurco Slurry offers has put us in market-leading position, allowing us to cater to a wide spectrum of applications,” he avers.
In the Long Run
Young tells Engineering News that the company’s long-term strategy prioritises continuous product development, strengthening its global presence and identifying new strategic partners to enhance its market reach.
“By investing in cutting-edge technologies, manufacturing capabilities and service infrastructure, Schurco aims to become a leading, full-service slurry pump manufacturer globally.”
The company believes that passion fuels innovation and energy, enabling it to deliver “exceptional” products and services that can meet the evolving demands of industries worldwide.
“As one of the few slurry pump companies exporting globally, Schurco Slurry remains committed to expanding its geographical footprint in the industrial and mining sectors, including significant growth in South Africa,” concludes Young.
