Name of the Project
Port of Ngqura liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal.
Location
Eastern Cape, South Africa.
Project Owner/s
Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) and Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).
Project Description
TNPA is proposing to build an LNG import terminal that will provide natural gas importation infrastructure bulk services.
Two options have been proposed.
The first option proposes a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) with a design life of 50 years, marine infrastructure (a berth), bulk services and associated gas distribution pipelines within the port
boundary.
The LNG breakwater berth will have the capability to expand to 2.8-million tons a year of LNG. It will accommodate a liquefied natural gas carrier (LNGC) with a capacity of 125 000 m3 to future demand at 267 000 m3.
The FSRU will have a capacity of 170 000 m3 and a deadweight of 95 000 t.
Option 2 proposes a land-based storage and regasification unit with a design life of 50 years.
The same marine infrastructure used for Option 1 remains, while a new 2.5-km-long cryogenic pipeline is developed to transfer LNG from the berth (at breakwater) to the new land-based storage and regasification terminal adjacent to the port boundary.
This option is planned to deliver 500 000 t/y to 2.8-million tons a year of LNG.
The design of LNG breakwater berth will accommodate an LNGC with a capacity of 125 000 m3 to 267 000 m3. The LNGC will have a deadweight of 95 000 t and even higher.
