Africa Oil Week 2025 to be held in Ghana
Africa Oil Week (AOW), which is currently marking its thirtieth anniversary at AOW 2024, which is in progress at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, has confirmed that AOW 2025 will be held in Accra, Ghana. Now owned by Sankofa Events, AOW described this move as a “strategic shift” showing a “commitment to amplifying AOW’s impact across the African energy landscape”.
“We listened intently to our stakeholders who expressed a desire to see AOW chart a new and exciting course,” explained Sankofa Events CEO Paul Sinclair. “Moving to Ghana allows us to expand our reach, foster new partnerships, and create even greater value for the African energy sector.”
Accra was chosen for AOW because Ghana is politically stable, strategically located, and has a flourishing energy sector. The Ghanaian government has pledged its full support for AOW 2025.
"Not any country matches up to ours in terms of being a safe haven for investment. We have a very robust democracy,” affirmed Ghanaian Energy Minister Herbert Krapa. “We have a stable, peaceful atmosphere that continues to be a beacon of hope for several other countries."
The Minister highlighted the oil and gas opportunities provided by Ghana. These ranged from exploration to infrastructure, production and ancillary services.
Ghana also recognised the event’s ability to encourage investment and growth across the African energy sector. "The Ghanaian government, I assure you, is fully committed to ensuring that Africa Oil Week maintains its pan-African focus by inviting governments, national oil companies, regulators from across the continent and private-sector players to share their experiences," he said.
AOW itself affirmed that the move to Ghana showed a “shared vision” for a stronger energy future for the continent. That future would be sustainable, inclusive, and empowering for future generations. “As AOW prepares for its 2025 debut in Ghana, the focus is clear: to facilitate partnerships, drive investment, and ensure Africa takes a leading role in shaping its own energy destiny,” it proclaimed.
