Berg River Voëlvlei Augmentation Scheme (BRVAS).
Location
In the Western Cape, South Africa.
Project Owner/s
The Department of Water and Sanitation, and the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality
Included in the project are the municipalities of Bergrivier, Drakenstein, Saldanha Bay and Swartland, Lower Berg river Main Irrigation Board and the Stellenbosch local municipality.
The Trans-Caledon Tunnel Authority (TCTA) will fund and implement the project.
Project Description
The BRVAS has been designated a Strategic Integrated Project by the Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Commission.
BRVAS will abstract and pump water in winter from the Berg river to the existing Voëlvlei dam, augmenting the yield of the water supply system by about 23-million cubic metres a year. The project comprises a weir, abstraction works, a 5 MW pumpstation and a 6.3-km-long pipeline to transfer the water to the dam.

The project is estimated at R1-billion, excluding value-added tax.
Planned Start/End Date
Construction is planned to start in mid-2022.
