Gold Fields appoints two new nonexec directors
JSE- and NYSE-listed Gold Fields has appointed Shannon Leigh McCrae and Zarina Bibi Mahomed Bassa as nonexecutive directors, with effect from August 2.
Bassa will also serve as a member of the audit committee.
Gold Fields points out that McCrae is a professional geologist and executive with more than 25 years of experience in the resources industry.
She has recently been actively engaged in mining and exploration activities through her company Athene Geoscience and serves as a board member of Probe Gold, Vox Royalty and Atacama Copper.
Until recently, McCrae was a nonexecutive director of Boart Longyear.
Prior to her current roles, she held the position of director of exploration and growth at Barrick Gold, where she was a key member of the senior Global Exploration and Growth team until 2019.
McCrae has also held senior positions with De Beers Canada and served as business development VP at Novamera.
Bassa, meanwhile, is a qualified chartered accountant in South Africa and is currently the senior independent director and audit committee chair of Investec plc and Investec Ltd, the specialist banking and wealth management group, and a nonexecutive director of the JSE.
She previously served as lead independent director of Woolworths Holdings and a nonexecutive director of several other companies including Mediclinic International, Oceana Group, Kumba Iron Ore, Mercedes Benz South Africa, Sun International and Vodacom South Africa.
Bassa is also the past chair of Yebo Yethu, Vodacom Group's black economic empowerment scheme.
“The board welcomes Ms McCrae and Ms Bassa and looks forward to their contributions to and guidance of the company as it continues to deliver on its strategy,” says Gold Fields.
