Pick n Pay Hypermarkets across Gauteng have transformed their epoxy floors into ‘super floors’ using a new concept that is available on the local market through Superb Flooring Systems, part of the Pan Mixers South Africa (PMSA) group of companies.

Superb Flooring Systems is the exclusive distributor of a wide range of internationally recognised HTC floor grinding and polishing machinery and Diamond Cleaning System (DCS) Twister diamond-coated pads.
PMSA sales and marketing manager Quintin Booysen explains that the combination of these tools creates the HTC Superfloor.

“The HTC floor-grinding machines and diamond tools grind and polish concrete floors to remove the surface paste and expose the stronger concrete beneath. The result is a stronger, more durable, shiny and beautiful polished concrete floor.”

Specialist contract cleaning solutions provider Meondo Trading used the DCS Twister system at five Gauteng-based Pick n Pay Hypermarkets in 2012 with overwhelmingly positive results, notes company founder Jay Moodley.

“Owing to the epoxy flooring in most Gauteng Pick n Pay Hypermarkets being overdensed with chemical residue, the Twister pad range, with a chemical-free solution, was used to eradicate the residue, which proved to be cost effective and environmentally safe,” he explains.

HTC Twister specialist Fredrik Toftemo points out that HTC Twister floor cleaning pads are coated with billions of microscopic diamonds and only require water for daily cleaning applications, thereby eliminating the need for wax, polish and periodic maintenance in most cases.

“The simplicity of using the system includes one pad and only water, which will clean and shine the floors. For improved shine, we use burnishers to reseal and make the surface shinier and more wear resistant. This process will improve the life span of the surface sealer.

“The cost of maintaining the floors has been reduced, as the need for strip and seal is reduced from two to three times a year to once a year, depending on the store. Even during the strip and seal process, Twister replaces the need for harsh chemicals, reducing the time and cost needed for the process to clean the floors,” says Toftemo.
Meondo cofounder Nevi Moodley highlights that using the Green Twister pads for burnishing the floors proved to be highly successful, as the shine of the floors was maintained to a large extent. He says: “This was the first time that we used the Twister range, which was so successful that we decided to test it on ceramic floors. Upon doing so, we found that scratches, rust and dirt build-up were significantly reduced.”

According to Nevi Moodley, Meondo did not encounter any major challenges when using the Twister system. “The automation process is user friendly and has simplified the cleaning process for our staff,” he continues.

Nevi Moodley believes that the DCS Twister system is an efficient and cost-effective method of floor maintenance, especially when undertaking a ‘strip and seal’ project, which is traditionally time consuming, in addition to being labour, equipment and chemical intensive.

“All these variables were substantially reduced when using the Twister system and Pick n Pay expressed its satisfaction with our efficiency and the exemplary way in which we conducted the ‘strip and seals’ using the diamond Twister method,” he concludes.
