Cybersecurity multinational Trellix aims to grow further in Africa by deploying its scalable extended detection and response (XDR) cybersecurity platform and providing companies with enterprise-grade cybersecurity tools that suit their operations, Trellix Europe, Middle East and Africa senior VP and GM Fabien Rech tells Engineering News.

The company is investing in bolstering its presence in African markets and it has a robust network of local partners to support its users, he adds.

The company's XDR platform uses machine learning and artificial intelligence processes to identify threats across a range of threat vectors, including companies' end-point devices and information and communications technology infrastructure, and then sends alerts to users of potentially vulnerable assets and suggestions for the most appropriate responses to mitigate risks based on best practices.

Similarly, the company's tool suite is designed to help information technology and cybersecurity managers to actively manage their organisations' cybersecurity processes and respond to threats in real-time to protect their organisations' digital assets, Rech says.

This blend of real-time threat intelligence and an adaptable and responsive cybersecurity platform underpins Trellix's living security approach. The dynamic nature of cyberthreats necessitates that the platform be proportionally agile and responsive, and it is supported by Trellix's international threat research and intelligence teams, he explains.

"Living security does not mean that an organisation can feel safe. The approach emphasises that organisations must understand what they must protect, where it is and how it is protected and then use the appropriate tools and methods to secure it."

The world is in the midst of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. A key capability that Trellix provides to its users is threat intelligence, says Trellix South Africa country lead Carlo Bolzonello.

"This keeps our users informed about the threats and responses to protect their organisations. Threat intelligence is necessary to provide a clear indication of how users should respond," he notes.

Therefore, Trellix has built its threat intelligence into its platform and its suite of tools as one of the key drivers of ensuring a living security set of tools for customers with which they can automate portions of their cybersecurity processes and orchestrate their organisation-wide cybersecurity processes, he says.

Further, while some of its customers prefer to insource all their cybersecurity functions, Trellix does provide support services and managed services to customers who do not have or do not want large in-house cybersecurity teams, Rech points out.

"Talent is a core consideration in cybersecurity and we are working to ensure society is aware of the importance of the industry in the changing global economy and that youth are aware of the opportunities in the industry," Rech notes.
