Global technology leader ABB announces its participation in the upcoming Mining Indaba 2026, taking place from 9–12 February 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).  This year’s edition emphasises collaboration across sectors, under the theme “Stronger Together: Progress Through Partnerships,” bringing together industry leaders, governments, investors, innovators and policymakers to explore sustainable growth and innovation in mining.

ABB has been a strong proponent in this space with its collaborative vision for electrification, automation and digital transformation in mining. At Africa’s premier mining investment event, ABB will highlight real examples at its Tech in Action session, exploring technologies miners need for real progress.

The session will be led by Björn Jonsson, Global Business Line Manager Mining & Materials at ABB’s Process Industries Division, who will discuss the global transition to all-electric, automated and digital operations, highlighting how safety, productivity, sustainability, and capital discipline can drive real progress.

He will be joined by Erik Pretorius, Global Lead: Large and Strategic Mining Projects and Initiatives at ABB’s Process Industries Division, who will provide insights into how today’s large-scale, complex mining projects are being designed to integrate electrification, automation, and digitalisation from the outset.

“The mining industry stands at a transformational moment,” says Charl Marais, Local Business Line Manager Mining & Materials at ABB’s Process Industries Division. “At Mining Indaba 2026, we will demonstrate how ABB’s solutions can help mining companies transition to cleaner, more efficient operations. By working together with our partners, customers and industry allies, we are helping to accelerate decarbonisation while supporting productivity and safety goals.”

With over 130 years of mining expertise and world-class technologies in electrification, automation, and digital, ABB is partnering with miners, OEMs, and supply chain leaders to drive meaningful transformation. Together, we're reshaping mining operations to be cleaner, safer, and more efficient - delivering real progress for the industry, as well as the world beyond it.

As mining operations worldwide seek to reduce carbon intensity and enhance productivity, ABB’s eMine™ framework offers a comprehensive pathway to design, implement, and optimise all-electric mine operations, from grid integration and charging infrastructure to digital control systems.

ABB invites Mining Indaba delegates, industry stakeholders and media to attend the Tech in Action session and engage directly with its global leadership team to gain insight into how electrification, automation and digitalisation are reshaping the future of mining.

At Mining Indaba, ABB representatives will be available for media briefings, technical discussions and one-on-one engagements to explore how ABB’s solutions are tailored for the African mining landscape, advancing both sustainability and competitiveness.

The Tech in Action session will take place on Monday, 9 February 2026, from 12:00–12:20 at the Nubian Pyramids Stage, CTICC 2 (Ground Floor), as part of the Technology & Innovation Hub programme.
