Accreditation services provider broadens its scope

International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) accreditation solutions provider All Quality Systems (AQS) is now able to generate and implement the required documentation for any ISO management standard, train personnel, and assist clients to achieve accreditation and certification within a four month time frame.

To facilitate a competitively swift accreditation process, AQS leverages alliances it has forged with ISO certification bodies.

Originally, AQS only worked with ISO 9001, which centres on quality accreditation. However, the company soon graduated to working with other ISO standards, such as ISO 14001 which centres on environmental accreditation, and ISO 45001 which focuses on occupational health and safety accreditation. AQS now works with all ISO standards. Moreover, the company can now conduct both second and third party product and system audits on behalf of its clients as well.

The quality assurance activities provided by AQS include supplier assessment audits to determine if each organisation is able to meet the customer’s requirements; the pre-qualification of suppliers against any given criteria or specific technical capabilities; and audits on contractors and suppliers engaged in project execution.

As part of its service offering, AQS provides remedial audits to determine causes of non-conformance and defects, as well as product audits to confirm conformance to specified standards. The company also conducts design audits to verify that designs meet legal and customer requirements, as well as close-out audits to ensure that all outstanding quality issues have been resolved and that lessons learned are properly documented.

Since the company’s inception in 2002, AQS has successfully assisted 72 organisations to achieve ISO accreditation and certification. Originally, AQS’s primary goal was to assist small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) to attain ISO accreditation, which the company believed would enable them to access corporate supply chains.

With this mission in mind, AQS developed a quality costing module for SMMEs, which runs in a spreadsheet database. This module – called a ‘cost of quality’ module – assists clients to determine the risks of poor quality against failure costs. It is based on the ‘prevention, appraisal and failure’ (PAF) model.

AQS believes that the advantage of quality costing is that it is able to determine the efficiency of the quality management system and the early detection of incorrect spending.

Quality control is another key service that AQS offers, which is the appraisal of planned activities encompassing the development and supply of clients’ products and/or services.

Generally, this is accomplished through the implementation of quality control plans or standard operating plans.

Whichever system is used, AQS will monitor the planned arrangements by signing off on the respective quality control plan or standard operating plan.

AQS also offers second and third party inspection services. This involves the inspection of products to assure clients of compliance with specified requirements. Training and assistance in inspection techniques is provided, including dimensional metrology. Qualified and experienced inspection personnel are assigned by AQS based on their suitability and qualifications for the assignment.

The company also provides specialist services, a such as failure investigations and statutory inspections.

For failure investigations, AQS has the necessary expertise and support mechanisms, including access to metallurgical laboratories and non-destructive testing facilities to carry out failure investigations on a wide range of equipment and materials.

When it comes to statutory inspections, AQS uses government-approved inspection authorities who are registered in terms of South African National Standard SANS:10227:2012. The company’s statutory inspection services include design review and approvals with regard to various codes and standards, third party surveillance during manufacture, certification and re-certification of pressure vessels, as well as in-service inspection of boilers and pressure-retaining equipment.

AQS has been involved as a supplier to provincial small business development agency Gauteng Enterprise Propeller, the Northern Cape radio telescope project MeerKat, as well as the national Small Enterprise Development Agency.

AQS is also registered with the United Nations as a service provider to the Southern African Development Community region.
