A range of innovations designed to address the needs of original-equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and customers, was recently on show at the bauma construction and mining machinery trade fair held in Germany.

Perkins highlights several solutions it displayed at the show, including highly engineered, field-proven engine technologies that lower greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions while delivering significant improvements in power density, performance and operating efficiency, as well as expert technician services, flexible engine repower and replacement options, and genuine replacement parts.

The company notes that it is engaging in a battery programme as part of its ongoing initiative to help its customer base of more than 800 OEMs navigate the energy transition.

Beyond navigating a wide and expanding selection of power solutions that improve sustainability, OEM engineering departments also face the growing complexity of integrating lower-carbon alternatives. Building on its hybrid-electric, hybrid-mechanical and hybrid-hydraulic programmes launched in 2019, Perkins says that it is strategically positioned to further help OEMs through the energy transition.

The company notes that it also offers integration expertise to OEMs through its Customer Machine Engineering Team, which steers projects from concepts to prototypes to functional, fully tested machines by evaluating system requirements, optimising system architectures, managing system controls development, calibration and verification, and performing final system validation.

In addition, Perkins offers a portfolio of connectivity solutions that can help OEMs promote the optimal, sustainable performance of diesel engines. Available as a standalone service or integrated with OEM fleet management offerings, connected engine capabilities can deliver timely insights through a customisable dashboard of performance, fuel and oil consumption, and other vital engine data points that can maximise the uptime of machines and fleets.

The company asserts that its global network of distributors can help OEMs enhance the sustainability of their equipment through numerous aftermarket capabilities.

Perkins says that its engineers are currently developing and field-testing 48 V, 300 V, and 600 V battery configurations that can be leveraged by OEMs in the construction, industrial, materials handling and agricultural industries.

The lithium-ion batteries are said to be robust, modular designs, featuring factory-installed telematics to optimise performance and packaging in off-highway applications. In addition, they will be designed for recycling and reuse at the end of life to incorporate sustainability across their entire life cycle.
