Advanced safety and visibility system for wheel loaders
A raised bucket in front of traditional wheel loaders can create blind spots, posing significant safety risks. Develon, formerly Doosan Construction Equipment, has introduced its transparent bucket 2.0 (TB2.0) system, which aims to address this problem by using front-mounted cameras to create a real-time see-through effect on the cab monitor. This gives the operator a clear view of the obstructed area, for greater visibility and precision when handling materials such as aggregates, sand and soil.
The new version of the system introduces AI-powered object detection (OD) and object recognition designed to enhance safety and provide real-time hazard alerts. OD identifies objects, including people, within 10 m and alerts the operator by issuing a red triangular warning on the monitor. Advanced object recognition enables the system to learn the position of the bucket and automatically adjust the composite image to match the movement of the bucket, to provide accurate real-time visualisation.
The system integrates two cameras mounted on the cab and front frame designed to create a seamless, curved projection composite image of the space in front of the bucket. This enables the display to dynamically adjust as the loader moves to maintain a clear, uninterrupted view for the operator.
TB2.0 also features an improved warning system with colour-coded alerts that communicate the level of danger to the operator:
The instant, intuitive alerts help operators make quick, informed decisions to help prevent accidents and improve workflow safety.
Additional benefits of the system include:
- Improved safety: eliminates blind spots, reducing the risk of accidents.
- Improved efficiency: provides a clear view ahead, making materials handling faster and more accurate.
- AI-driven alerts: detects obstacles and alerts operators in real-time.
- Seamless operation: Automatic bucket position tracking ensures accurate visibility.
Develon notes that, while the additional intelligent safety solution significantly improves visibility and safety, operators should always visually inspect surroundings and not rely on the system alone but use it as complementary tool.
