An AI-driven monitoring solution that provides real-time video insights is designed to enhance fleet safety, security, compliance with local regulations and operational efficiency.

The video system from Bridgestone’s fleet management solutions company, Webfleet, introduces two new cameras, CAM Lite and CAM Pro, that use machine vision and AI-driven monitoring to provide sharper insights into driver behaviour, real-world conditions and potential risks.

The Webfleet Video 2.0 solution also includes a portfolio of auxiliary cameras and accessories for specific customer requirements and use cases. The next-generation system is designed to integrate safety, security, compliance and insurance requirements into a single, comprehensive platform. It proactively detects and alerts drivers to a wider range of risks, including mobile phone use, tailgating and driver fatigue, as well as risky driver behaviour. Real-time AI-driven feedback helps the driver to take immediate corrective action.

“With the relatively high rate of road incidents, crime and even community protest action in South Africa, insurers (vehicles and goods) are increasingly requiring trucks to be equipped with cameras,” says Webfleet South Africa country sales manager Michelle De Freitas. “While existing camera technology might offer basic recording functions, this iteration has resolved several technology limitations, leading to more reliability, availability and coverage.

The upgraded system includes more wireless signal technologies enabling vehicles can travel further without interruption, regardless of local signals. Improvements in memory storage allow secure digital, or SD, card errors to be detected proactively.

The next-generation system gives fleet managers more detailed data-driven insights by integrating video telematics to OptiDrive 360, Webfleet’s driver scoring system, enabling managers to track and improve driver behaviour over time.

Vehicle and cargo security is further enhanced with auxiliary cameras, strategically placed to monitor surroundings and safeguard valuable assets. Incident footage is automatically recorded and uploaded, giving fleet operators evidence to help manage accident-related costs, streamline insurance claims and prevent fraudulent activity.

“By combining AI-powered monitoring with real-time video analysis, we are giving fleets the tools to proactively manage risk, protect assets and enhance driver wellbeing. This innovation offers greater visibility and control, helping fleets make smarter, data-driven decisions that improve both safety and efficiency,” says Bridgestone president: fleet management solutions Jan-Maarten de Vries.

To support compliance with General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, and Protection of Personal Information Act, or POPIA, and industry privacy regulations, fleet managers have full control over camera configurations, data storage, data encryption settings, and access permissions within the Webfleet platform. Optional lens covers provide additional privacy, ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
