Engineering products manu- facturer and supplier Omsa product manager Philip Craig says the company has expanded rapidly over the last three years, owing to its unique, complete and fully functional bulk fuel filtration system.

All key components, such as gearboxes, electric motors, variable-speed drives, prefilter housings and other filtration products for these systems, are available through its relationship with BMG.

In terms of the diesel filtration system, an offloading/receiving and dispensing skid is offered at 0 ℓ/min to 800 ℓ/min. It includes a vane pump, a prefilter and a fine filter.

Craig adds that the system also includes an in-line particle counter and calibrated meter, as well as a programmable logic controller (PLC). International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) cleanliness levels achieved on these systems, in accordance with ISO 4066, have been recorded with a contamination class of 14/12/10, which is within the contractual requirements.

The lubricant oils filtration system consists of offloading, recirculating and dispensing skids at 0 ℓ/min to 170 ℓ/min. It includes a gear pump, a fines filter, an in-line particle counter, a calibrated meter as well as a PLC. He adds that if the requirement is for a contamination class of 18/16/14, the filtration system delivers this result.

Craig highlights that, in Botswana, diesel was supplied for turbine power generation. The implementation of the Omsa bag filter system resulted in the mine reducing its monthly operational filtration costs from R200 000/m to R40 000/m.

He explains that the benefits of these filtration systems are twofold – reduction in maintenance costs and an increase in production efficiency, which, in turn, translates into an increase in the plant efficiency to maximise return on investment.

Currently, Omsa has a product footprint, in East and West Africa, in more than 15 countries and is aiming to expand its footprint globally.

Craig adds that, over the last two to three years, bulk fuel filtration has grown exponentially and will expand further, owing to the high demand and need for cleaner fuel and lubricant oil.

In July 2012, Omsa MD Siegfried Errath told Engineering News : “The synergy between Omsa and BMG is obvious – we share the same business ethics and philosophies, as well as a desire to increase market share and customer satisfaction. This alliance will have a positive impact on our team at Omsa, as the financial capital that will become available to Omsa will assist in the group’s continued growth therefore offering greater job security.”
