Back-up power solutions for home and office
A new generation of uninterrupted power supply (UPS) and power protection systems is now available for essential technology applications in both residential and professional settings.
The 5E Gen2 UPS from power management company Eaton offers additional features aimed at meeting customer requirements for efficient, affordable and reliable UPS.
“Not only must a UPS solution provide enough power to safely shut down certain sensitive equipment, it must also offer the ability to continue key operations in a variety of settings, thus keeping the economy going, even throughout the most extreme periods of supply shortage,” asserts Eaton South Africa junior product manager Jessica Masina.
The compact solution covers a wider range of ratings (550 VA to 2200 VA) than previous models and is designed to ensure quieter operation and includes a fanless design on all models up to 1 200 VA.
The product range offers back-up power protection for information technology devices such as computers, workstations and peripherals, Internet routers, network attached storage devices, TVs and game consoles. It is also ideal for use with home security devices, point of sale machines, and ticketing machines.
This UPS is covered by a two-year warranty that can be extended and is CE-certified by an external agency, according to international safety standards.
The 5E Gen2 batteries are permanently recharged, even when off and the UPS features a cold start function, which allows it to be started without power from the mains. The unit also includes an automatic battery test and battery replacement alarm.
Eaton UPS companion software allows users to analyse and control power usage and allows for safe system shutdown and easy access to UPS settings that enables users to monitor cost and usage.
“With a much broader potential user base, especially in the consumer market, installation and usage is easier and the device integrates automatically into most common operating systems, providing an effortless connection with any equipment,” adds Masina. “The compact housing makes the UPS easy to fit into home or office surroundings.”
