BevSA appoints four new board members
Nonalcoholic beverage industry body Beverage Association of South Africa (BevSA) has appointed a diverse group of individuals with expertise across various sectors to its board.
The new appointments include Sergio Filho, Grant Pereira, Fred Chiazor and Basetsana Modimogale.
Filho, who has been appointed nonexecutive director and chairperson, brings to the board more than 20 years of working experience at Coca-Cola, having worked most recently as VP for franchise operations in South Africa.
Pereira has been appointed nonexecutive director and deputy chairperson. He is also the MD of Tiger Brands’ snacks, treats and beverages category, with prior leadership roles at South African Breweries and Mvelaphanda Group.
Chiazor will bring to the nonexecutive director position more than 35 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, including as a senior technical director for Monster Energy Company. He has expertise in regulatory affairs, public policy and standards development across Africa.
Modimogale, now a nonexecutive director of BevSA, also works as public affairs director for Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa. Her experience includes developing and executing public affairs strategies, building strong stakeholder relationships and driving internal and external communications.
BevSA CEO and executive director Mpho Thothela says the new board members’ diverse backgrounds and expertise will be instrumental in guiding the association’s strategic direction and ensure its continued success as challenges and opportunities both exist in the nonalcoholic beverage (NAB) sector.
In South Africa, the NAB industry contributes R60-billion to the country’s GDP and supports 294 000 jobs while cumulatively contributing R18-billion in taxes.
