Project Owner/s
Vedanta Zinc International (VZI) subsidiary BMM. VZI has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Enernet Global.
Project Description
VZI signed a PPA with independent power producer (IPP) Enernet Global in 2023 to build, own, operate and maintain a 12 MW direct current solar PV plant for VZI’s BMM operations.
The Phase 1 facility will generate about 29 GWh/y of electricity and will reduce carbon emissions by about 25 t/y.
Phase 2 will entail entry into a new PPA.
Potential Job Creation
The project will generate direct and indirect employment opportunities for communities within the Khâi-Ma municipal area and for the broader Namakwa district, both in the construction and 25-year operational tenor of the plant.
Capital Expenditure
Capital will be invested by the IPP.
Planned Start/End Date
The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
