Project Description
BMW Group South Africa announced an investment in 2023 to equip its Rosslyn plant to build the fourth-generation BMW X3 PHEV.

The plant will use a production process that prioritises the conservation of resources and circularity. Production will start with the PHEV model, exclusively manufactured in Rosslyn for the world. 

The new fourth-generation BMW X3 will also be built at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, in South Carolina, in the US.

Potential Job Creation
About 20 000 people are directly and indirectly employed at BMW Group South Africa’s facilities and within its supply chain.

Capital Expenditure
BMW Group is investing R4.2-billion in the site over five years.

Planned Start/End Date
BMW Group Plant Rosslyn ended production of the third-generation BMW X3 on August 28, 2024. The plant started manufacturing the fourth-generation BMW X3 in October 2024.
