Telecommunications group Cell C and information and communication technology giant Huawei have partnered to assist Cell C’s transition into a digital lifestyle company.

The partnership will boost Cell C’s flexible information technology (IT) systems to enable digital services and customer experience improvements, which is at the core of the organisation’s reset into a new way of doing business.

The business support systems (BSS) transformation project and cooperation for digital service and customer experience management aims to provide end-users with an enhanced digital experience, enabling Cell C’s evolution from a traditional mobile service provider to a modern technology company.

Huawei will deploy a Cloud Native BSS Solution across Cell C’s different business lines and customer segments, thereby improving its agility and modernising its BSS in readiness for future business roll outs.

“Cell C is moving away from being a pure telco to a techco provider and customer centricity is pivotal to this future. Our IT systems need to be able to support us in this journey as we become a digital business with simpler business flows,” says Cell C CEO Douglas Craigie Stevenson, noting that, with the recapitalisation now complete, Cell C is looking to start afresh and focus on growth by investing in high value opportunities around its digital business.

“This means removing complexities from our user journeys and being able to respond better to our customers' needs. Through collaborations and partnerships like this one with Huawei, we will be able to launch more innovative products and services to our customers.”

The project is expected to build on the strong, decade-long partnership between the two companies and is another step forward in addressing the needs of Cell C’s customers and getting its ideas out to market quicker.

“We are very happy to enter into this new phase of our relationship with Cell C. Our next-generation BSS, is a cloud native BSS solution which will enable Cell C to simplify their products while still offering a lot of flexibility to their customers,” says Huawei South Africa Carrier Business director Fortune Wang.

“With Huawei’s vast experience working with leading global telecommunications companies, together with a large research and development investment into our products, we believe that our solution can effectively support the new Cell C way of doing business,” Wang concludes.
