The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA), Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA), and Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA) are proud to announce the soft launch of the Green Hydrogen Centre of Specialisation (CoS), taking place on Monday, 30 September 2024, at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Pretoria.
This initiative, spearheaded by CHIETA CEO Mr. Yeshen Pillay, MQA CEO Dr. Thabo Mashongoane, and TETA CEO Ms. Maphefo Anno-Frempong, is a strategic response to the rising demand for skills development in the green hydrogen sector. The Centre will offer hybrid training programmes focusing on Continuous Professional Development (CPD), with specialised courses aimed at upskilling and reskilling individuals for the rapidly growing green hydrogen and derivatives industry. These programmes will be delivered in collaboration with selected universities, universities of technology, and TVET colleges, targeting NQF level 5 or higher qualifications.
The Green Hydrogen CoS will address all aspects of the hydrogen value chain, guided by the Department of Higher Education and Training’s (DHET) skills mapping, ensuring the alignment of training with industry demands and national priorities. This launch highlights the SETAs’ commitment to driving innovation and supporting South Africa's transition to a green economy.
At the event, a tripartite agreement will be signed by CHIETA, MQA, and TETA, solidifying this collaborative effort. This partnership will enhance resource sharing, expertise, and market reach, while ensuring alignment with government priorities, ultimately promoting the success of the Green Hydrogen CoS.
