Last month, Californian lawmakers approved a measure mandating that all electricity come from wind, solar and other clean-energy sources by 2045. The state currently gets about 44% of its power from renewables and hydro. California was also the first US state to require solar panels on almost all new homes as part of a mandate to take effect in 2020. The photo above shows contractors installing solar panels on the roof of a new home in Sacramento.
