Smart technology and innovative telecommunications solutions provider Corridor Africa Technologies is developing solutions to safeguard mobile network operators (MNOs) against the adverse impacts of persistent loadshedding.

Leveraging its extensive experience and expertise in the telecommunications industry, the company is integrating robust backup power systems, advanced monitoring technologies and intelligent network management to enable MNOs to deliver uninterrupted connectivity for South African users.

Loadshedding continues to significantly impact MNOs, leading to network vulnerabilities and inefficiencies, and is hindering South Africa’s progress within the global telecommunications industry as it leaves MNOs trailing behind their global counterparts in terms of service reliability and operational efficiency.

“Corridor Africa Technologies recognises the urgent need to address this issue and is committed to providing effective solutions that will empower MNOs to overcome these challenges,” Corridor Africa Technologies CEO Matone Ditlhake says, noting that the power disruptions are not only causing inconvenience to users but also hampering MNOs' abilities to monetise the surging data use resulting from the growing demand for reliable connectivity.

“One of the significant consequences of prolonged network unavailability caused by power blackouts is the potential increase in vandalism. With reduced network coverage, individuals may resort to damaging or tampering with telecommunication infrastructure, exacerbating the problem and further disrupting services.”

Recognising the importance of protecting critical infrastructure, the company is actively implementing strategies to prevent vandalism and safeguard the various MNOs' assets.

Further, the impact of the power blackouts extends beyond just the telecommunications sector, he says, pointing out that financial services migration, a vital aspect of South Africa's economic growth, could suffer a massive setback owing to reduced momentum caused by unreliable network availability.

“Corridor Africa Technologies understands the critical role of connectivity in facilitating financial services migration and is committed to ensuring a stable and efficient telecommunications infrastructure to support this process,” Ditlhake says.

The company's efforts to address power blackouts in South Africa align with its mission to empower MNOs and support the country's growth in the global telecommunications landscape.

“We are actively engaging with government, industry stakeholders and MNOs to collaborate on comprehensive solutions. By fostering partnerships, we aim to drive innovation, resilience and progress in South Africa's telecommunications sector,” he concludes.
