The Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) has been appointed to act as a co-mandated lead arranger alongside Absa and Nedbank to provide debt funding and black economic empowerment equity funding for three large-scale wind farms and 120 km of transmission lines in the Eastern Cape

The overall project, comprising 330 MW of renewable energy capacity, will supply industrial customers Sasol and Air Liquide under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

The project sponsors are Enel Green Power and the Perpetua Holdings consortium.

“We expect the projects to start operating in 2026 and to help alleviate supply constraints in the country. This project aligns with DBSA’s Embedded Generation Investment Programme and its commitment to promoting clean energy and sustainable development,” says DBSA project finance acting head Lungile Tom.

As one of the continent’s leading development finance institutions and co-financier of an energy crisis solution, DBSA is fulfilling its mandate by promoting infrastructure development and fostering economic growth in the region.

“Renewable energy projects such as these demonstrate our commitment to sustainability and building Africa’s prosperity,” says DBSA transacting group executive Mpho Mokwele.
