Deputy Minister applauds women taking charge in the rail sector
Transport Deputy Minister Dikeledi Magadzi this week accompanied the Railway Safety Regulator in its inspection of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa’s (PRASA’s) Wolmerton depot, in Pretoria.
The inspection was held to assess the condition of the depot against scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities that keep PRASA’s trains, coaches and motor coaches available and reliable for safe train operations.
The Deputy Minister’s visit was also to verify adherence of PRASA personnel to the set standards and procedures when performing scheduled and unscheduled activities, the inspection of some of the rolling stock at the depot, as well as the enforcement of regulatory instruments where noncompliance is detected.
During her inspection visit, Magadzi applauded the inclusivity of women in the railway sector.
“It is cheering to see women representatives on the inspectorate and railway operation management teams. Women’s service to the railways came into being because of the demand of the women themselves.”
