Input materials supplier Wilec holds exclusive distribution rights of MicaSIL, an electrothermal insulation sheet that is flexible and thermally resistant and can be used as a slip plane insulation between the crucible and induction coil in induction furnaces.

Wilec is the exclusive reseller of MicaSIL in Africa.

MicaSIL protects the furnace lining from the contraction and expansion forces in melting operations, serves as a heat barrier and acts as a slip plane, facilitating easy removal of the crucible.

MicaSIL offers several benefits in industrial applications, including significantly reducing energy costs by minimising heat loss through the ramming mass, while also providing a slip plane that allows unrestricted expansion and contraction of the lining during thermal cycles.

In the case of molten metal leak-through, MicaSIL acts temporarily as a protective barrier. It also prevents condensation of moisture and harmful gases on coils, thereby preventing premature coil failure.

Additionally, the slip plane properties of MicaSIL facilitate the easy removal of spent crucibles, thereby extending the lifespan between patching and re-linings.

Importantly, MicaSIL is non-injurious to health, ensuring safety in workplace environments.

Company Background

Founded in 1953, Wilec is one of Africa’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of input materials and technical solutions to the electric rotating machine, transformer and general industries. It comprises three product divisions, namely electrical, mechanical and industrial.

The company has two manufacturing centres in Johannesburg, as well as stocking and distribution centres in the other main economic hubs in South Africa.

Extensive capital investment by new ownership also ensures that Wilec stays at the forefront of the industries in which it operates, and in-house conductor manufacture, slitting, fabrication and machining facilities ensure that local content is maximised.

Wilec’s team of technical specialists is further supported by global manufacturers, including Isovolta, Elantas, DuPont, Pucaro and Figeholm among others.

In conjunction with Wilec’s own in-house brands, Transwire conductor and Avast tapes, these long-standing partnerships ensure that Wilec’s customers have continual technical support and access to the latest technology developments in their respective fields.

“Our goal is to provide the market with exceptional service by providing customers with technical solutions tailored to their specific applications, and supplying quality products as an integral part of their supply chain,” the company says.
