Embraer signs MoU with Dutch aerospace research agency
Brazil-based major aerospace group Embraer and the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (Royal NLR) have deepened their relationship with the signing of a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday. This is focused on developing strategic collaboration in aerospace research, including innovation and the development of technologies in the spheres of space systems, defence systems, general aviation, air mobility, maintenance, repair and overhaul, and sustainability.
The MoU also provides the opportunity for the two entities to strengthen and extend their already existing long-term relationships regarding the design and development of Embraer’s products. These include the E-Jets family and its new-generation development, the E2 family, as well as Embraer’s legacy business jet family and its KC-390 military multimission aircraft, as well as other programmes. Already, the two partners are discussing possible opportunities concerning automated maintenance procedures.
“Embraer and NLR are long-term collaborators with each party contributing specific expertise necessary to conduct complex research and developments to be applied in advanced technologies and innovative products,” reports Embraer Defence & Security CEO Jackson Schneider. “This new MoU is another important step in our long-term relationship in the Netherlands and reiterates our commitment to further strengthen our collaborative partnership with NLR in a dynamic aerospace ecosystem.”
“Indeed, Embraer and Royal NLR have a longstanding relationship and we are happy to strengthen and extend our relations even more through this MoU,” confirms Royal NLR CEO Michel Peters. “This partnership is an opportunity for both parties to address shared challenges, identify common interests and to develop innovative approaches and methods to address the issues of global aviation. I really welcome the increased cooperation between Embraer and Royal NLR, and I am looking forward to see our mutual benefit.”
The relationship between the two organisations now stretches back some 20 years. In that time, they have cooperated in such spheres as the aerodynamics of Embraer products (including wind tunnel tests and the creation of advanced aero-elastic wind tunnel models), flight-deck technology, new materials and systems development.
Both Embraer and Royal NLR belong to the Netherlands Aerospace Group (NAG). The latest MoU between Embraer and Royal NLR is an outgrowth from the MoU between Embraer and the NAG, signed in September this year.
