Engen’s Anru Motors service station in Robertson is making a positive difference and play a small part in uplifting youth in the nearby Nkqubela community.
When service station owner, Riaan Brand heard about fulltime petrol attendants, Aliwanga Ngcako and Lunga Gunundu’s vision for a new football club called Dream Tigers FC, he knew it was important to lend a helping hand.
“I was moved by Aliwanga and Lunga’s intense passion for soccer and the community and wanted to do what I could to help get this new initiative off the ground,” comments Brand.
The main aim of Dream Tigers FC, which is 2km away from Engen Anru Motors, is to instil a sense of belonging through teamwork to young boys and men.
“The club’s slogan Honour, Courage and Glory really resonated with me,” adds Brand.
When not offering exemplary, world-class service to Engen customers, Aliwanga and Lunga use much of their spare time to enhance their local community by encouraging the 15-strong football team to have a sense of purpose by committing to a common goal.
Explain Aliwanga and Lunga: “Our team slogan ‘Honour, Courage and Glory’ is all about teaching the team to have integrity in everything that they do and being courageous enough to take on any challenge, whilst learning through winning as well as losing.”
As a caring company, Engen commend Engen Anru Motors and pump attendants Aliwanga and Lunga for showing heart and doing their bit to make a difference in their local community.
Comments Engen’s acting General Manager: Retail, Enoch Hermanus: “We encourage Engen dealers to get involved and play a role in supporting the community at large.”
Engen Anru Motors financial contribution was matched by Engen’s Dealer Community Partnership Programme, which encourages Engen dealers to engage and support the local communities in which they operate.
Engen’s R5 000 contribution will go towards assisting the club with soccer kits, transport costs and entry fees.
