Power utility Eskom has appointed Alfred Seema as group executive for strategic delivery.

He joins the utility from Sasol, where he most recently held the role of VP for gas sourcing and business development. He has over 25 years of experience in gas and associated project development and execution, as well as strong programme management skills.

Eskom says he is a seasoned strategist and executive with an impressive record in the energy and petrochemical sectors, the majority of which was spent at Sasol and national oil company PetroSA.

“We are bringing in some new skills at the executive level to guide our teams in the business so we can execute faster and more efficiently. We’ve moved at pace to close critical positions at Eskom and I am again impressed with the volume and calibre of applicants who were willing to be associated with our brand and chose to work for Eskom and the country,” comments Eskom CEO Dan Marokane.

In June, Eskom announced that it would, over a 36-month period pursue a number of key initiatives to deliver value. These include increasing the energy availability factor to 70% in the next 12 to 36 months; returning more than 2.5 GW of capacity to the grid by March 2025; developing an executable initial pipeline of at least 2 GW of clean energy projects by 2026; rebaselining the cost trajectory and improving efficiencies; advocating and pursuing a sustainable solution on municipality debt; completing the unbundling of the Distribution and Generation divisions; and accelerating the implementation of initiatives to enable a just energy transition.
