As the country grapples with issues of safety at construction sites and the risks posed by adverse weather conditions on properties, humans and building systems in the country, innovative ways of construction and building are required to save lives and improve the building and construction sector, says the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI).

Public Works and Infrastructure Deputy Minister Sihle Zikalala will, on February 25, open the Construction and Built Environment Stakeholder Forum and Expo that will explore the adoption of new technology in order to keep this industry competitive and adaptive to climate change.

Under the theme ‘Building stronger partnership for sustainable innovation’, the Building and Construction Expo focuses on technology and is convened by Agrement South Africa (ASA), an entity of the DPWI.

ASA was established to be the regulator of non-standardised construction products and systems in South Africa.

The forum and expo, which will feature construction and built environment professionals and associations, will provide a platform for stakeholders to share insights, challenges and opportunities in the adoption of innovative building technologies for the competitiveness and safety of the industry.

Some of the innovative technology options will be on display during this engagement.
