FAW to upgrade Coega truck plant in R200m investment
FAW Trucks Southern Africa will invest R200-million in upgrading its Coega assembly plant, in the Eastern Cape.
“We are planning to level up our productivity,” says FAW SA assembly plant GM Peng Lei.
“We also plan on extending our facilities and enlarging our storage area.
“In addition, we want to digitise our production and improve our training centres.”
This new investment follows ten years after the Chinese truck maker established its R600-million assembly plant in the Coega Special Economic Zone.
The newest investment declaration was formalised at the Coega Business Centre, in Gqeberha, and was witnessed by Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane and dignitaries from the Jilin Provincial People’s Congress of China.
“We welcome this investment by First Automotive Works. We believe that it is a good decision for the continent, and for relations between South Africa and China,” said Mabuyane.
