Goedehoop teleport facility to boost non-terrestrial communications
The Goedehoop teleport in Doornkloof, Pretoria, is being completed by satellite network company Paratus and will greatly enhance non-terrestrial communications across all key connectivity pillars, namely telecommunications, backhaul, data centre and satellite, by providing satellite solutions and colocation services to its customers and other satellite operators.
The teleport facility is the group's largest investment in South Africa to date and was built to serve sub-Saharan Africa. The Goedehoop teleport provides resilient fibre routes to data centres in South Africa and strengthens the company's satellite communications services.
The next-generation facility was built to world-class specifications to serve future needs for reliable teleport connectivity and colocation services in South Africa and into the rest of Africa. It has diverse North and South fibre routes, true intra-resilient uninterrupted power supply and monitored cabinet power distribution units – all backed by 90 hours of generator autonomy.
The facility also has fire suppression and world-class heating, ventilation and cooling systems. It boasts extensive security, including perimeter and zoned electric fencing, closed-circuit television and thermal monitoring, as well as biometric access control at all entry points.
“Satellite communication is playing an increasingly important role in keeping businesses connected in Africa. We can ensure uninterrupted services of our satellite solutions and colocation services through our robust infrastructure design, which is essential for any business that depends on real-time transactional data, such as the retail and financial sectors, especially when power supply is erratic,” said Paratus South Africa MD Kallie Carlsen.
“Goedehoop is a major investment for Paratus. It bolsters our offering in the region and our high-quality satellite services in 35 countries across Africa,” he said.
“This teleport’s quality is owing to our hard work and dedication, and we are excited to launch it. We are offering colocation services to other satellite operators and it demonstrates our commitment to building world-class infrastructure.
"We are eager to provide our customers with better connectivity and to relocate the entire Paratus South Africa head office and warehouse to the Goedehoop campus within the next 18 months,” he added.
