Grindrod showcases rail offering at SARA Rail Conference and Expo

Grindrod Rail CEO Johny Smith discusses Grindrod's rail offering at the 14th SARA Rail Conference and Exhibition in Sandton
Logistics solutions provider Grindrod Rail CEO Johny Smith spoke to Engineering News at the 14th SARA Rail Conference and Exhibition, following Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy’s announcement of 11 companies granted open access to South Africa’s rail network.
Speaking at the Sandton Convention Centre, he emphasised that with Grindrod being one of the companies announced, the company is committed to enhancing rail efficiency, reducing transportation costs and supporting the movement of bulk commodities, particularly for the mining sector.
Having established operations across Southern Africa, Grindrod aims to leverage private-sector investment to expand rail infrastructure, strengthen export corridors and deliver long-term economic benefits.
Smith also discussed the benefit of strategic partnerships, highlighting its activity outside South Africa's borders in Zimbabwe and Zambia.
