Ground Service Equipment Maintenance Facility, US

Name of the Project
Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Maintenance Facility.
Location
George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Houston, Texas, in the US.
Project Owner/s
US company United Airlines.
Project Description
The project involves the construction of a new 13 000 m2 ground service equipment maintenance facility and the opening of a new, state-of-the-art technical operations training centre at the airport that will give employees a cutting-edge training experience.
The new GSE facility will support the airline’s fleet of more than 1 800 ground service vehicles.
It will also provide United’s GSE maintenance team of more than 130 employees with more resources to perform critical tasks such as charging batteries and fabricating metal, as well as monitoring electronic controls using improved infrastructure and modernised
workspaces.
The new Tech Ops Training Center will support the airline’s plan to take delivery of hundreds of new planes by 2032. The 8 454 m2 facility includes sheet metal and composite training shops and desktop simulators, as well as scenario-based engine maintenance and inspection trainings.
The centre will house a cutting-edge move team facility, strategically designed to centralise United’s supertug operations.
United’s IAH move team manages more than 15 supertugs across the airfield, efficiently moving hundreds of aircraft daily to support flight departures, remote parking areas and technical operations hangars.
