JSE-listed real estate investment trust Growthpoint Properties and airline FlySafair have launched SmartFlight, an initiative that allows businesses signing new leases of three years or more in Growthpoint’s Johannesburg office portfolio to convert up to 30% of their tenant installation allowance into FlySafair flight vouchers.

The vouchers, which are redeemable through a central blockchain-based digital wallet, enable tenants to seize opportunities for business travel, including to attend meetings or conferences, to enable hybrid work strategies or get teams face-to-face to collaborate.

Using the digital wallet, the tenant can allocate the flight ticket to any employee within their company.

“Office space isn’t only about square metres, but also about enabling your business to thrive. We are proud to partner with FlySafair to take our office tenants to new heights,” says Growthpoint Properties offices head of asset management Timothy Irvine.

SmartFlight allows Growthpoint's tenant installation allowance to be used as a strategic asset, which recognises that connection is as critical as space in the business world, and supports the operational growth of tenants’ businesses, he adds.

“FlySafair is proud to be part of an innovation that puts real business benefits in the hands of Growthpoint’s tenants,” says FlySafair chief marketing officer and executive manager Kirby Gordon.

The Growthpoint SmartFlight vouchers are valid for 12 months and are redeemable for FlySafair domestic flights, subject to standard FlySafair and Growthpoint terms and conditions.

“SmartFlight turns offices into strategic resources that help South African businesses stay agile, competitive and connected,” says Irvine.

Meanwhile, Growthpoint will soon switch on its e-co₂ wheeled renewable electricity, which will be delivered directly to tenants that opted in at several office buildings in Sandton through a power purchase agreement with Etana Energy, he adds.
