Hot commissioning of Bakubung processing plant under way – Wesizwe
Hot commissioning of the processing plant at JSE-listed Wesizwe Platinum’s Bakubung project has started, as plant rectification works remain on track.
The company in June 2023 announced delays to the commissioning of the processing plant owing to defects identified in the initial test runs of the plant.
In 2024, Wesizwe enlisted the services of experts to develop a comprehensive plant rectification plan. Experienced contractor Sinosteel was brought on board to assist with the rectification of the identified defects that included, among others, lubrication system failure, excessive spillage on pulleys and trolleys and challenges with the hydraulic pump.
Since the initial announcement regarding the plant rectification, best efforts have been invested to ensure the success of the Bakubung project and that the operation is able to commission a fully operational processing plant that has capacity to meet the operation’s future production targets, the company says.
