Project Description
JB4 is the largest standalone data centre built in Africa, with 80 000 m2 of building structure serviced by 80 MW of utility power supply and providing 50 MW of critical IT power load.
The facility comprises 14 data halls, making up 17 000 m2. It is the first data centre in Africa to provide 5 MW of critical IT load within one data hall.
The facility has multiple fibre paths to the Teraco Isando Campus connectivity hub (JB1/JB3/JB5) located 20 km away.

Capital Expenditure
Teraco finalised a new R2.5-billion loan financing transaction for the project in February 2021. Teraco will use the funds, raised with cash generated inhouse, to finance the build.
Planned Start/End Date
Teraco announced the completion of Phase 1 in November 2022 and Phase 2 in August 2025.
Latest Developments
Teraco announced the completion of a major 30 MW expansion of its JB4 Bredell Campus in August.
The new phase adds six liquid-to-liquid cooling-enabled data halls, each supporting 5 MW. The new phase is optimised for high-density cloud and AI workloads.
The JB4 expansion follows the opening of Teraco’s 30 MW JB5 Isando facility it and boosts the company’s total platform to 189 MW across Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
JB4 offers unparalleled connectivity, including access to global cloud on-ramps, Internet exchanges and carriers at NAPAfrica.
