KSB Pumps and valves launches new Imvubu wastewater pump
From Creamer Media in Johannesburg, this is the Real Economy Report.
Sashnee Moodley:
Developed and built in South Africa specifically for African operating conditions, pumps and valves product manufacturer, KSB Pumps and Valves (KSB) has launched a new self-priming wastewater pump, the KSB ELN-150 Imvubu. Lynne Davies tells us more.
Lynne Davies:
After having witnessed challenges faced by its customers in sewage and wastewater handling, KSB developed the Imvubu pump to help mitigate issues such as pump clogging, difficult seal replacement and unscreened sewage.
Developed through the use of advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics modelling and efficiency redesigns of the impeller, volute and hydraulic passageways, the result provided a significantly improved pumping performance that reached more than 65% hydraulic efficiency.
Additionally, the KSB Imvubu features bearings-for-life with no oil lubrication required.
KSB water, wastewater and irrigation market area manager Hugo du Plessis tells us more.

Lynne Davies:
The pump also achieves a 77.3 mm free-pass solids handling capability that exceeds the global raw sewage benchmark of 76 mm.

Lynne Davies:
The body of the KSB Imvubu is cast with thick, heavy-duty volute walls that will resist erosion while extending its operating life.
The design of the KSB Imvubu also includes the addition of an inspection hatch that will allow staff to clear blockages without removing the suction cover, which is an added advantage for treatment plant technicians and municipal maintenance teams.

In addition, the KSB Imvubu is fully designed and manufactured locally, aligning itself with the localisation incentives provided by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTIC), further supporting South African industry and local employment.
