Limpopo govt opens new access road to benefit for Ga-Masemola communities
Limpopo Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha this week officially launched the newly tarred D4253 road in Ga-Masemola, in the Makhuduthamaga local municipality.
Built by Roads Agency Limpopo, a State-owned entity under the municipal Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, the road is a 5.42 km access road that connects the people of Ga-Masemola to the R33 in the Greater Sekhukhune district.
“Our commitment is to create infrastructure that makes life easy everywhere, not just in the big cities, aiming to ensure that our people enjoy the fruits of this democracy because you are the ones who have voted for this democratic government,” the Premier said at the launch event on October 12.
Mathabatha further stated that the commitment of the Limpopo government was to accelerate the delivery of roads and other important infrastructure to surrounding communities, especially in the rural areas .
He further cautioned on the loss that comes with protests and the resultant destruction of tar roads.
“I would like to make a clarion call to our communities to safeguard this project and refrain from burning tyres or damaging them so that we’re able to build more in other areas where [roads are] needed. This road is meant to improve socioeconomic development and better your lives.
“If you destroy this road tomorrow, it would probably take you years to have this road rehabilitated because the demand for roads is not only in this area.
"We simply have to find acceptable ways of expressing our concerns without resorting to the destruction of public assets. Notwithstanding the evident backlog and related challenges, as the provincial government, the tarring of roads remains high on our priority list,” he added.
Mathabatha said the new access road would reduce the number of accidents on the road, while also reducing travel times.
