South Africa-based opencast mining contractor Trollope offers a range of services, including opencast contract mining, crushing and screening, mine infrastructure development, bulk earthworks, rehabilitation, and plant hire.

Established in 1975, the company says its 50 years of experience makes it an adaptable partner capable of managing complex projects while delivering superior levels of productivity and safety.

Specialising in medium- to large-scale mining operations, Trollope boasts one of Africa's largest fleets, and delivers projects focussed on extracting commodities such as coal, platinum, copper, andalusite, gold, phosphate, lithium, uranium, iron-ore, manganese, limestone, and diamonds. It notes that its high maintenance standards ensure that peak availability is maintained across its fleet and that it aims for a high degree of self-sufficiency, minimising reliance on external suppliers or service providers.

Operating in South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia, with recent projects completed in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Guinea, Trollope is broadening its presence across Africa and venturing into new mineral sectors and regions. It offers the full set of services associated with opencast contract mining in Africa. Alongside standard opencast earthmoving services, the company specialises in short- and medium-term scheduling, certified training, optimisation of drill and blast operations, fleet management solutions, and on-site environmental management planning.

In addition to traditional truck and shovel methods, Trollope employs alternative earthmoving techniques tailored to a diverse range of deposit types. These methods encompass continuous mechanical mining for extensive, uniform, and softer deposits, roll-over mining techniques for horizontal deposits, selective mining in inclined hard rock layered formations, and utilising large front-end loaders across multiple blasted panels.

Trollope says it aims to execute sustainable projects that help optimise the economic potential of any project, even in the most difficult and remote regions.
