Mahindra sees record 2025 as sales surge by 40%
Mahindra South Africa (SA) notched up yet another record sales year in 2025 as the move to more affordable vehicles continued in the domestic market.
The company sold 18 097 new vehicles, which is 40% more than the 2024 tally – and significantly more than the total domestic market’s 15% growth.
While Mahindra sales have historically been anchored by its Pik Up bakkie range, last year’s sales were boosted by passenger vehicle sales.
Mahindra's passenger vehicle sales jumped by more than 100%, increasing from 3 969 units in 2024, to 8 085 units in 2025.
This exponential growth was driven by the XUV 3XO small sports-utility vehicle (SUV) and the Scorpio-N large SUV.
Both the XUV 3XO and the Scorpio-N were voted the Motor Enthusiast's Choice at consecutive South African Car of the Year events.
“Mahindra is here to stay,” says Mahindra SA CEO Rajesh Gupta.
“As we enter our third decade in South Africa, we will double down on our business model of responsible investment, sustainable growth and authentic products with world-class support.
“If we continue to focus on these business fundamentals, then the sales success will continue.”
This year will most likely seek the introduction of the XUV 7XO as the successor to the XUV 700, as well as the new Bolero.
Mahindra SA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra of India.
It has close to 100 dealers in South Africa and also exports vehicles to Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia.
The company does semi-knockdown assembly of its bakkies in Durban, but is busy with a study to convert this to full assembly.
