Midvaal municipality completes R22m pipeline
The Midvaal local municipality has completed a R22-million water pipeline project that will enable Risiville, which borders on the Emfuleni local municipality, to have its own water supply.
Previously, the Risiville area faced severe water cuts and reduction as it was joined to and relied on Emfuleni local municipality’s pipeline.
“Emfuleni’s water interruptions constantly affected the residents and businesses of Risiville, often leaving them without access to water for long periods of time,” said Midvaal local municipality mayor Alderman Peter Teixeira in a statement, noting that the new pipeline will draw water directly from the Rand Water supply point.
The project involved the excavation and installation of a seven-kilometre high-density polyethylene, or HDPE, bulk water pipeline with associated infrastructure such as pressure management infrastructure, including a pressure reducing valve station, water metres and water supply valves.
The project cost included construction and consultation fees.
“This is yet another milestone for our administration as we committed to moving Risiville from being reliant on Emfuleni’s water pipeline at the beginning of our term,” Teixeira concludes.
