Mogalakwena Municipality gets sewerage service delivery

( Virtual Showroom ) Mogalakwena Municipality, a local municipality within the Waterberg district of Limpopo, is putting its latest asset – a combination high-pressure jetting and vacuum truck manufactured in South Africa by Werner Pumps – to good use to improve service delivery.
The jetting unit was part of a larger “yellow fleet” provided to the municipality by Mogalakwena Anglo Platinum Mine through its R5million social and labour plan, comprising a jet patcher (for patching potholes), three graders, a crane truck, a cherry picker, an excavator, a rock drill and ambulances.
Mayor Ngoako Taueatsoala said the fleet would be invaluable in improving service delivery within the municipality and that the Werner Pumps unit would not only assist in dealing with sewage spillages and repairs, but also with maintenance of the sewer systems.
Speaking at the handover of the unit, he said that the municipality would work with ward councillors to ensure that sewage spills were an issue of the past. He encouraged municipal workers to take good care of the truck to keep it in top working condition and called on the people of Mogalakwena to report spillages timeously and to cooperate with the municipality in addressing them.
George Jolly, National Sales Manager at Werner Pumps, said the unit is the company’s flagship Werner Impi 12 500l Combination vacuum and jetting truck, 100% locally manufactured at the company’s headquarters in Springs.
“The Impi unit is a popular choice for municipalities,” he said. “It’s a robust combination option. It allows sewers to be cleaned by firstly using a high-pressure water hose with a specialist jetting nozzle that dislodges waste and flushes it down the gully hole, and then by vacuuming up the material that has been flushed down the gully hole, with water and solid waste being deposited into the sludge tank through a suction hose. The cleaning of sewers with simultaneous jetting and vacuuming increases the efficiency of the line clearing process.”
The Werner Impi unit offers hydraulically operated jetting and vacuum functionality and has a capacity of 295 litres per minute and a maximum pressure of 135 bar. It also features a hydraulic slewing suction boom, two hydraulic-driven hose reels and multiple toolboxes.
Jolly says it’s gratifying to hear that Mogalakwena Municipality is able to improve service delivery, as well as sanitation, through the Impi truck. “We love seeing government officials excited about being able to serve their communities better, and being a part of that,” he says. “We hope the truck serves the people of Mogalakwena Municipality well for many years to come.”
