Murchison Green Hydrogen project.

Location
The Murchison area of Western Australia’s Mid West region, about 20 km north of the coastal town of Kalbarri.

Project Owner/s
Green energy infrastructure development company Murchison Green Hydrogen and dedicated fund manager Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).

Project Description
The project will include an onshore wind facility comprising 522 wind turbines, and a 7 000 ha solar farm, a desalination plant and a green hydrogen production facility.
 
The project will have a generation capacity of up to 6 GW of green energy and produce about 1.8-million tonnes of green ammonia a year. It will also eliminate an estimated 5.3-million tonnes of CO2 emissions a year. 

The project will likely be completed in two phases.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create about 3 600 jobs in construction, 600 jobs in ongoing local operations, and 24 300 full-time jobs across green energy Australia industries.

Capital Expenditure
On March 19, CIP, through its CI Energy Transition Fund I, announced it had secured A$814-million through the Australian government’s Hydrogen Headstart programme for the project.

Planned Start/End Date
Construction is expected to start in 2027, with a duration of about five years.
