The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has extended the deadline for submitting written comments on the electricity tariff applications by the Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality, the Msunduzi local municipality and the Madibeng local municipality for the 2024/25 financial year to March 30, 2026.

On January 14, the North Gauteng High Court instructed the three municipalities to submit compliant tariff applications and cost of supply studies to Nersa for redetermination, and mandated that Nersa must finalise the tariff redetermination by no later than June 30.

In line with the order, Nersa has made the tariff applications and related cost of supply studies available on its website, which enables stakeholders and members of the public to review the documents and provide input as part of the consultation process.

The regulator invites all interested and affected parties to submit written comments via email to municcomments@nersa.org.za by March 30.

A virtual public hearing will take place on April 28 to provide stakeholders with the opportunity to present oral submissions. Those who wish to participate in the hearing must send their requests to publichearings@nersa.org.za by April 17.

Nersa will carefully consider all written and oral submissions before reaching a final decision on the tariff applications.

The tariff applications and supporting documents can be accessed on the Nersa website.
