New filtration product developed
INPENATRABLE FILTER FABRIC Pyro-flo can achieve 1 mg/Nm3 emissions in acidic, high-temperature baghouses that operate from 260 °C to 280 °C.

Dust and liquid filtration systems manufacturer Crosible Filtration, in collaboration with afabric developer, have developed a product called Pyro-flo.
“Pyro-flo is a blend of needle-punched needlefelt and a pyrolytic woven media. The results are phenomenal when it comes to achieving near-zero emissions,” says Crosible Filtration MD Sebastiaan Buisman.
He explains that heavy industrial sites stand to gain an advantage when using Pyro-flo because it can achieve 1 mg/Nm3 emissions in acidic, high-temperature baghouses that operate from 260 ºC to 280 ºC.
The cement industry, for instance, has much to gain in terms of their kiln baghouses in the production of clinker cements, he adds, noting that dense-media ferrosilicon supplier DMS Powders has been operating one of its baghouses for eight months on the Pyro-flo “with great success”.
Coal-fired boilers use spark arresters to stop the embers from reaching the baghouse or the dust removal plant and, “should the coal-fired boilers use Pyro-flo, it could lead to the prevention of millions of rands in losses and, in turn, be a thumbs-up for the environment”.
Crosible Filtration produces the Pyro-flo at its Krugersdorp-based factory, where its latest automated glass tubing line is situated.
Buisman mentions that the newly acquired Teflon tape lamination equipment will be installed next year, which will thermically fuse a polytetrafluoroethylene tape over the sewing seam.
“The sewing seam has always been an Achilles heel in our attempt to achieve zero emissions, but with this new technology, these emissions can be eliminated,” he concludes.
