New heavy duty hose pump for demanding mining applications
A new heavy-duty pump has been engineered specifically for the mining and construction sectors with increased safety features and improved durability.
The Bredel hose pump, part of Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions (WMFTS), is specifically suited to handling difficult solids, such as transferring abrasive high-solid content slurries, thick sludge and corrosive fluids with flow rates to 108 000 ℓ/h and pressures up to 16 bar.
The heavy-duty pump’s frame enables safer pump transportation using a forklift truck, and features bearings that provide an extended lifetime when pumping high-solid content slurries. The solution’s safety features include a window guard that offers extra protection, a flange bracket that reduces the risk of lubricant leakage and lowers maintenance, as well as a C4H paint coating, certified for high corrosion resistance, that ensures higher resistance for harsh environments.
Bredel hose pumps and Qdos chemical metering pumps from WMFTS are designed to be low maintenance and have a lower impact on the local environment, reduce water consumption, and decrease energy use. The peristaltic pumps are said to be long-lasting and are especially suited to applications such as transferring thickener underflow and accurately dosing reagents, helping to ensure a more efficient mining process.
“Unlike conventional pumps, our peristaltic pumps use a hose or tube as the primary wear part, which minimises maintenance and downtime due to internal wear. This design ensures reliable performance, which is crucial in harsh mining environments where equipment durability is essential. Bredel hose pumps have a robust construction so they can handle high solids content and strong acids without damage or contamination, which makes them ideal solutions for thickener underflow, tailings transfer, concentrate filter feed, and chemical metering,” says WMFTS global business development manager: mining Wilfried Staijen.
WMFTS plans to unveil its new Bredel heavy-duty pump at bauma 2025, the trade fair for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment.
